Severe Weather Discussion
A record storm was recorded in the North east this week where a Bomb Cyclone, with up to 100 MPH wind gusts knocked power out for over 600,000 homes and businesses. A bomb Cyclone forms when the pressure drops at least 24 millibars within 24 hours. The steeper and faster it drops, the stronger the storm that forms. This happens because the sudden change of pressure causes air to move very quickly and suddenly to the new very low pressure region causing strong wind.
