Severe Weather is expected to strike DFW Friday afternoon and evening into the night. This blog will be describing what to expect and how to prepare. The data is unclear for right now but will become much more accurate on Friday. There is currently a number 3 Enhanced Risk for most of east Texas and into Louisiana. Part of the DFW area are in this risk but still, the severe weather threat may still be there for the DFW area.
DETAILS:
An intense mid/upper shortwave trough will dip down from the Rockies and come into the deep south. When the cold front blows in around late afternoon time, there will be a series of important events that we will look at to see how the storms will form. Wind Shear, instability of the atmosphere, and the Squall line Development. The squall line development area will ultimately determine who gets what. The squall line (line of storms) may form east of some and then appear out of nowhere surprising many and strike with force.
This is why I will do a Live Stream on Friday so that WC can warn before this happens.
Soooo, How Bad???
The Wind Risk is high (common with severe storms and squall lines)
The Hail Risk is also high but this typically changes and of course the risk of large hail is for now remaining JUST east of DFW. (Now DFW is still in danger of large hail, just not as severe as east).
The Tornado Risk is low but is increasing as we see data showing that the atmosphere is proving good for tornadoes if things work out. Also, wind shear is very good and impressive for tornado development. This means we could see some scattered tornadoes (not a very good odds for strong tornadoes) This is not 100% for sure at all! DFW may get no tornadoes at all.
Again, the ingredients in the atmosphere for severe weather is just set up the best JUST east of DFW. But this just isn’t enough to rule out the dangers we still are in.
Timing
The Timing is unclear now but the best I can say is sometime late afternoon into evening. SPECIFICS COMING SOON!
