The Mysterious World-Wide Sounds Recap
For the past 100 Years, yes, 100 YEARS, there has been records of people saying and writing down about “Thundering noises” and “Strange Booms” and actually many saying “Nonstop nightly hums and whistling.” Some extreme cases people say claim that they hear “Screams from the skies” or even “Music from Heaven.”
These Sounds are unexplained for sure. But many say they could be caused from the aurora borealis. A roar and a scream from the aurora borealis? Sounds crazy. Believe it or not, its one of the two BEST explanations for this.
National Geographic says that these sounds reported by people are located in aurora borealis zones where the “Northern Lights” actually end up making these strange sounds during the show. Its because the suns particles impact the earth’s magnetic field and each other so violently it create noises and they are distorted as they reach earth. But could that really make those sounds? The non HUM sounds? Also, there are no Northern Lights happening at the time of many of those videos.
The Second Theory is something called Skyquakes. Skyquakes are unexplained reports of a phenomenon that sounds like a cannon, trumpet or a sonic boom coming from the sky. These are super rare space phenomenon in which the sky can distort sounds of something on earth or by military planes/aircraft in the sky in such a way and in such an EXTREME way to form literal screams and booms. This seems possible, but you can look at the many more cases of music heard from the sky and space and trumpet sounds. These just haven’t been solved yet. Perhaps they will never be solved. All we know is something strange has been happening around the world for over 100 years.

So, What New Info Is There?
The Mysterious World-Wide Sounds is a trending topic lately, and this is exactly why WC is doing another blog in this. Plus, there are several new theories WC has on this topic!
Tectonic Plates
Sometimes within the earth’s crust, the tectonic plates shift and create intense vibrations up toward the surface creating strange noises. They are best heard from within the ocean, closest to the crust of the earth.
Sky Booms
This is a proven phenomenon where the sky distorts ordinary sounds like sonic booms from aircraft, military operations, airspace, city pollution, road noise, etc. The echoing of these sounds within the layers of the atmosphere can severely distort the sounds creating strange noises.
Ball Lightning
If you haven’t ever heard of ball lighting, research it or learn more here! Ball lightning is able to produce a sizzling sound or sharp humming sound when present. While extremely rare for ball lighting to occur, it may be the explanation for some of the strange noises.
Radio Waves
There is a research program in Alaska known as HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program) which many believe to be causing some of the strange hums throughout the world. This program has very advanced military style equipment that uses radio waves to survey the ionosphere. These waves can cause high pitched screeches and hums throughout the atmosphere. Radio waves throughout the world as well are known to make hums and sounds as well at certain frequencies.
Aurora Borealis
Surprisingly, the aurora borealis is able to produce a clapping sound occasionally that can be easily recorded by a microphone. This can really solve some of these videos but unfortunately, as scientists continue to research on why the aurora borealis makes these sounds, they’ve found these sounds are very rare. Not only that, most places you can only hear the sounds if you are out in the open, above the trees, or at a height of about 230 feet. This is because the reason for the sounds is a discharge of electricity by the geomagnetic storm, similar to how lighting works. So this can’t be a very good theory for the sounds.
Satellites
The frequencies of satellites are supposedly able to create audible humming sounds depending on time of day, geographical location, and the age groups of people in that area and whether they can hear the frequency or not. This theory doesn’t hold very well when it comes to these sounds.
Atmospheric Phenomenons
Occasionally the atmosphere can almost “trap sounds” and then release them differently or carry them for many miles. For example, thunder from a distant storm can sometimes sound really strange and so much different. The same can happen with airspace traffic and sounds. Additionally, the atmosphere can also make popping noises in rare circumstances because of high atmospheric pressure.
Pressure Venting
This is a fairly well known theory, essentially saying there is trapped hot air in the crust of the earth, and occasionally it erupts out of the ground causing screaming sounds… especially when the atmosphere distorts the sounds as it echoes between air masses.
Magnetic Poles Switching
Yes, there is evidence that the magnetic poles are switching very slowly! This is a process where the nickel and iron levels on the outer edges of the earths core began to fluctuate more than normal, causing the fields to become more unpredictable and turbulent. This can be discovered by studying how the earth defends against solar radiation. When it reacts differently, a switch could be underway. How does this create a sound? Well there could be huge amounts of energy being released in the inner core of the earth more than normal because of the magnetic pole flip resulting in very low frequency sounds that radiate up through the earths crust. Most people don’t hear the sounds since they are low on the human audibility spectrum, but some do. This could explain the mystery of the world-wide hum, especially since the source isn’t in one location on the earth, but actually within the earth (explaining why many different countries here it)!
User Comments Q&A
“Those are really spooky. My guess? Bigfoot.”
Bob F
Answer: “You are not alone with this theory of yours! Many others on the internet have made their points on why they think it is either bigfoot or aliens. We still don’t exactly know what all the sounds are or if bigfoot exists, but what we do know is that many of these sounds can be explained!”
“I just listened to all the mysterious sounds again. I think they are even more scary the second time around. I have to wonder, while they are different sounds in different places, could they all be related in some way? And I wonder how long these sounds have been around…years? Hundreds of years? Really spooky stuff!”
Carol F
Answer: “Yes the mysterious world-wide Hum has been around for almost 100 years according to records while the trumpet-like sounds or “sounds of the apocalypse” has only been around for the past 12 years or so. The sounds are definitely unique and scary!”
“Hmm.. very interesting. I’ve thought about this a good bit in the past as I’ve found accounts of this phenomenon very fascinating. But like you said earlier we just have theories right now and I honestly have no idea, I think it’s very strange. However I do remember hearing about this one place several times that was a huge hole in the ground that was making strange sounds like screams, and a big hole in the ground is definitely not the sky so….I dunno how these are related if at all but.. it’s definitely unsettling to say the least.”
Whitt M
Answer: “So WC did some research on the ‘strange holes’ and found a couple good theories. One was that these sounds were caused by tectonic plate shifting. The sounds would make their way up the hole, and because of the echo it would distort the sound greatly until it finally reached the surface. Another theory is that the heat deep down in these holes can cause air pockets to burst and create strange sounds. These theories are pretty good, but they are still just theories.
“Crazy and fascinating blog. My guess? I’m wondering if it’s something spiritual—dark spirits—which is scary.”
Kathryn W
Answer: “Yes definitely scary!”
A Tip about “Doctored Videos”
Yes, they exist, and you stumble across them more frequently than you would think without even realizing it. Through WC’s research, WC has found many doctored videos (videos where the sounds were distorted to create extra drama or were added entirely). If you research on your own, be aware of click bait for videos and also keep in mind that some of these sounds that seem so crazy could be fake… thankfully we have professional sound analyzers that are able to determine which sounds are real. The sounds in the videos below are real and have been proven to be real.
What are the Trumpet Sounds?
The strangest sound of them all some would argue are the trumpet sounds heard around the world. These seem to be the most mysterious and unexplainable. Many argue they could be spiritual, like the second coming of Christ. Others argue they could be a signal for an alien invasion. WC continues to investigate, but to this point STILL, there is very little evidence or any theories explaining what they could be — leaving this sound unsolved. It’s up to your imagination now…
